Output format

JPG is widely accepted but does not support transparency.

Transparent areas become this color; white by default.

Advanced: output quality

Lower quality reduces detail and may reduce file size. PNG does not use a quality setting.

How to convert an image

  1. Choose a still JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP output. For JPEG, choose a background for transparent areas.
  3. Convert, compare the result and download the newly encoded file. Changing format can increase file size.

Choose an appropriate format

JPG is useful for photos and widely accepted uploads. PNG preserves transparency and sharp graphics but can be larger. WebP supports transparency when the destination accepts it. Converting JPG to PNG cannot recover detail already lost to JPEG compression.

Supported files and limits

Inputs: still JPG, PNG and WebP. Outputs: JPG, PNG and WebP, subject to browser encoder support. Up to 10 images per batch, 20 MB each and 40 megapixels per input. Output is limited to 16,384 pixels per edge and 40 megapixels. HEIC, GIF, SVG, PDF, animated PNG and animated WebP are not supported. Large images may exceed your device’s available memory.

Privacy, orientation and metadata

Selected files, filenames and previews stay in this browser page. Samples are fetched from this website only when selected. Start over clears the app’s file references; downloaded files remain on your device. Re-encoded images use the browser’s orientation handling and may change color profiles or remove EXIF and other metadata. An unchanged original keeps its original metadata.
